Cornell recognizes the high cost of quality child care can be a substantial burden to students that are raising children. The university has committed to helping students keep their children in quality care by subsidizing its cost through the Cornell University Student Child Care Subsidy Program.

As an added resource to Cornell parents, Cornell University has a Dependent Care Consultant, who can assist students with exploring child care options, including drop-in care and informal child care options such as nannies and babysitters. (For those with adult caregiving concerns, the consultant can also assist with locating adult/elder care resources in the community as well as help caregivers that are providing care from a distance).

Day Care and Child Development Council – 273-0259
Free information and referral services for locating child care for children ages 6 weeks to 11 years old in Ithaca and Tompkins County communities. The mission of the Day Care and Child Development Council is to promote the healthy development of children and families by providing resources, support services, information and referrals to parents, child care providers and the community. The Day Care Council also offers a child care grant program for qualifying families.
Department of Social Services Child Care Payments - 274-5030 or 274-5219
Provides financial help for child care services for low-income and qualifying families. Please contact at the above phone numbers to discuss eligibility.
Tompkins Community Action / Head Start – 273-8816
A preschool, child care center or home based program for 3 to 5 year old children. Children participate in a variety of activities to increase their language, social, physical, and cognitive skills. Current locations include: Dryden, Lansing, Groton, Ithaca and Trumansburg. Space is limited and families must be income eligible.

The Ithaca Youth Bureau provides a wide variety of recreation programs and
youth services to promote health, happiness and well-being. Program areas
include: sports leagues and lessons, expressive arts programs, summer day

a Big Brother/Big Sister program, tutoring and academic support, a stay and
